FURNITURE SALE
Messrs F. S. Malcolm and Co., auctioneers, conducted a very successful sale of new furniture- on behalf of Messrs Taylor and Co., Peel Street, yesterday. There was a targe crowd of buyers present, and good prices were realised, lhc sale will be continued to-day and to-morrow.

Wool is firm, and there was a spirited sale. The home trade are operating freely. Tho fleece parti on of Kmngaroa clip sold at 4>§d. Lie dates of tho forthcoming sales have been fixed as follows: January 19, March 9 (both unlimited), May 4, July C, September 21, and November 23. Wheat: 'Eleven thousand quarters of Australian December t 0 Jantjary shipments sold at 365. The American visible supply is 60,739,000 bushels. At the tallow sales, 900 casks were offered -and 300 sold. Prices are unchanged. _, „ „, Consols are at £B4 12s 6d.

Bank returns for tlie September quarter show a falling off in depositsamounting to £944,940, and advances show a decline of £193,456. During -the list two years bank advances at tho end of tho -September quarter have advanced to £4,645,069.
