THE TI'MARU ELECTORATE. [Pbess Association.] TTMAKU, Oct. 15. In response to a requisition from i|ioo elector's] the Mayor (Mr. Jas. Uraigie). Iras agreed to become a candidate lor Titnaru -in tire Gover-iiment interest. ■- DATE OF POLLING DAY. [Special to “Times.”] WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. There seems to be a general idea prevalent -that the Government Keenly anxious to fix the general election lor a date earlier than usual. It is stated on what appears to be good authority that polling day will be during the second week in November. Whatever day is chosen will be a half-holiday, - and the tale or nquor will be prohibited after noon.

A Wellington journal remarks that there are two facts in connection with the approaching general election which the Government must-, view with concern. No one can doubt that Labor is strongly resentful of tho treatment it has received at- the ■lands of Aliuisters. Tlie weakness displayed in enforcing tlie Arbitration Act against strikers encouraged Labor to make demands which were wrongly resisted, and the AttorneyGeneral’s speeches and actions in connection with the Conciliation and Arbitration Act Amendment Bill filled, the cup of Labor to overflowing. The candidates nominated by Labor have little hope of success, but at the ballot-box in November next tlie trade unions may, nevertheless, show tlieir strong resentment of the treatment; meted out to them by tlie Govern-! meat. Tlie second factor which mustcause Ministers some perturbation is. the recognition by inning community that the Government is indifferent to, or at -least ignorant of, the. needs of the country settler.
