THE OKARITO WHALE,
TRANSPORTATION OF SKELETON
WELCOME ADDITION TO
MUSEUM,
[Press Association.] Oct. 10. > The transportation of the sk< ~'c- f ton of the Ofcarito ivimfo from tlio :~d trucks in tlie st-iUoii yard to its final destination at the Canterbury Museum was accomplished to-day. The hones were loaded .from the trucks on to horse waggons and thus conveyed to the Museum grounds, where they were unloaded on the spare: pieco of ground at the rear of the building. The operation was suitervised by .Mr. 111! It. Waite, curator of the Museum, and there were several gentlemen who were interested in the lengthy cetacean front a scientific standpoint. The .bones were arranged roughly in the order which they will ultimately fill, and at; the work of arrangement advanced some ide-i was given of the immensity of the skeleton. The ribs and etebral. bones perhaps give one the most vivid impression of what' must havbV been the enormous bulk of the living mammal. The skeleton as a whole dwarfs into significance the exhibits which are already on view in tlie institution; they are decidedly puny when i comparison 'is made’. TlioMuseum authorities mere agreeably sin prised to find , that the bones wert> 1,1 a remarkably clean condition, tliosalvaging party having done their work with most commendable thoroughness.
