• The outlook'at the Barrier is grave. At a meeting yesterday of delegates of the combined unions and Mine Managers’ Association; the latter declined to go back on the promise to meet a non-political union to-mor-row. The managers explained That the mc'eting was only to discuss the situation. The delegates, however, refused to budge from the position that they will not allow the managers, under threat of. a strike, to meet a non-political union. A ballot of the combined unions completed late last night resulted in 354 being for and 430 against a strike. T THE CRISIS- AVERTED. The nom-political union, often receiving a deputation of tradespeople, who urged that serious distress would he likely to follow a. strike, decided to abandon the conference with the . mine managers. -

This, removes the cause for the combined unions, and the strike will be declared off.
