TURANGANUI CLUB

OPENING DAY

The official opening for the season of the Turajiganifi Bowling Club takes place to-day, and given fine weather a successful gathering is anticipated. A start will be made at 2 p.m., when sides will be picked for the customary President v Vice-President match'. At 3 p.m. the green wall be formally opened by the President of the club (Mr. G. Matthewson), after which play will again beindugod in. Afternoon tea will bo provided on tlio ground for visitors and their lady friends. The club had a most successful season last year, and with the green in a much improved condition, members .are confidently looking forward to an even better time, for the season of 1908-9. GISBORNE CLUB. The committee of the Gisborne Club met yesterday and ‘transacted a quantity of business. Mr. William Pettie presided. The names of several new members were discussed and approved for submission to), the ballot. An. invitation to participate in the opening of the Turangamii Club was received -and the majority of the committee expressed their intention to be present. The time for closing entries for the handicap fours, handicap doubles, and handicap singles was' fixed for Saturday niglit. It was also decided to invite entries for the champion singles; so that an. early start could be made this season, and 'November oth was fixed as the time for closing entries. The representative of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company notified his desire to donate a rug as a trophy, and it was decided to accept 'the gift with thanks.
