ROWING.

OPENING OF SEASON.

’ The postponed opening of the- rowing season will, weather permitting, take place this afternoon. The proceedings commence with a-procession of boats, arranged as follows: 'Harbor Board launch (containing City Band), private launches, fours (o), double sculls (2), single sculls (3). Private boats of all kinds are also invited to attend. The boats assemble at the shed at 2 p.m., and' proceed in single file to _ the end of the wharf, returning in double file to and thence to band rotunda, where the season will be declared open by the Mayor, and the naming of the Gisborne Rowing Club's three fours, “Wainui,” “Waihofa,” and f-Waikohu,” will take place. The following races will then bo held: Senior inter-club fours, inter-club double scullls, inter-club veterans’ fours, diqgey races (aU-comere, boys

under’.2l, 7 for trophies presented by the committee), single sculls, married v. singlo fours, two members from eacb club in each boat.

- POVERTY BAY CLUB

Mr. Archie Kirk, secretary of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club, lias just received a very handsome silk flag for. his club from/ a lady supporter. The flag 1 was made for and presented t 0 the club by Miss Austin, of Auckland, .and is about 6ft long by 3ft wide,-of pure silk, with broad blue and white horizontal stripes and a diagonal stripe of brown. The letters P.B.R.C. are beautifully worked in amber silk thread, and the year 190 S is worked' on the bottom of the flag in the same material.
