CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 22. Speaking to a reporter to-day, the Hon. J. A. Millar stated that a large number of fishermen had made complaints to him in regard to getting their produce on the market. Complaints, had .also been made by consumers of the present methods of seling fish. The Marine Department, after giving the' subject careful consideration, had come to the conclusion that the proper remedy was the establishment of public markets. It was not a matter for the State to take in, hand, hut for. the City Councils, which could deal with the question under the Municipal Corporations Act. There were municipal fish markets in Sydney, and they were a convenience for both the fishermen and the public. He had given instructions that communications on the lines he had suggested should he sent to the municipal authorities at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, .and Dunedin.
