A NEW ZEALANDER IN ENGLAND.
GENERAL IMPRESSIONS. THE FRANC&BRITISH EXHIBITION.
[Special to “Times.”]
WELLINGTON, 'Oct. 22. Mr. Mess Pringle, a well known business man who has just returned from a trip to England and the Continent, painted a gloomy picture of depressed trade and unemployment in Great Britain. What it- would be like in the middle of winter, he said, he did not care to think. Even in July soup kitchens were open at Port Glasgow for the relief of the destitute. Mr. Pringle is severely critical regarding the poorness of this country’s display at the FrancoBritish Exhibition. He also complains about the general laxness in advertising the resources of the Dominion. Canada and the Australian States are running rings round our London office -and our Tourist Department.
