This week being Carnival AYeek in Gisborne, will be celebrated with the outdoor and indoor 'amusements usual at the season. The Tarawera, which came from the South on Saturday, and the Monowai which arrived from Auckland yesterday, were crowded with visitors to the town, rand a large number of country people are expected to arrive here to-dav.
THE AGRICULTURAL BHO AY. The Poverty Bav A. and P. Association’s annual show will start tomorrow, when-judging will commence punetuall}- at 9.30 o’clock in the morning. Exhibitors are requested to have their exhibits on the ground by that- time. Judging on the second day will begin at 9 o’clock in the morning. The programme of events for both days is advertised, and in addition Mr. R. Gibb will give demonstrations of bee driving. Special trains li-avc been arranged for both days, the time-table being as follows: Gisborne, depart 7 a, in., 31 arm., 1.30' p.m., and 5 p.m.; arrive at the Show ground 7.10 a.pt., 11.10 a.m., 1.40 p.m., and 5.10 p.m. ; Te K.araka depart, 8.5 a.m., 0.15 p.m.; AVaikohu, arrive, 8.31 a.m. and 6.45 p.m. AVaikolni depart 5.50 a.m. and 7 p.m.; Te Earaka depart 9.16 a.m. and 7.26 p.m.; Show ground, depart, 10.16 a.m., 11.15 a.m., 1.45 p.m.,-and 5.12 p.m.; Gisborne, arrive, 10.26 a.m., 11.25 a.m., 1.55 p.m., 5.22 p.m., and 8.40 p.m. Following are the fares to Show ground and back, including admission to Show: From Gisborne Is 9d, from AYailiirere and 'Makauri 2s 3d, from Ormond 2s 6d, from Kaitaratahi and AA’aipaoa 3s, from Te Karaka and Puha 3s 3d, from AVaikohu 4s. THE RACES. ___ On Thursday and Friday the spring meeting of t-lie Poverty Bay Turf Club will be held. A programme of eight events will bo run off on each day, and as ia large number of entries have been received some good, racing should be witnessed. EVENING ENTERTAINMENTS. * West’s Pictures will commence a season of six nights in His Majesty’s Theatre this evening, and O’Neill Brothers’ buckjumpers will give performances each evening in Gladstone Road. •On AVednesday and. Thursday evenings important functions will take •place in the oiew Garrisoii Hall, in ■Fitzherberb Street, which was completed on Saturday. A garrison ball will he held on AVednesday evening, and a children’s hall on Thursday evening. The Hall will he formally opened hv 'Colonel Porter, C. 8., on AAhklnesday evening, in the presence of the officers and men of tlie various volunteer companies of the town and district.
