' WEST’S PICTURES. Quito a number of cinematograph; exhibitions lmve been given recently in Gisborne, but few of them, it any, have-equalled the performance or the well-known combination ‘West s i JCtureswhich was presented .to a crowded audience in His Majesty fe Theatre last night. .Tins company is making a special visit to Gisborne from Australia for Show week, and returns to Sydney at the close of the season here. They have brought some of the very latest importations in the way of films, and almost all those shown last night were absolutely new. A very excellent programme was submitted for the opeiir ing night, and the pictures were noticeably free from the annoying tinker so often seen in similar • shows. The pictures were of a much larger size than those usually seen, and embraced all classes of subjects, including scenes of travel, and dramatic and humorous films. Of the former those entitled “Scenes in Morocco and “Scenes an China” ; were most realistic. Another good film was called “The Treasure Island,” which told the story of a mutinied crew, whose cupidity leads them to commit crime in order to achieve their object of obtaining hidden treasure on an island, but unsuccessfully. The majority of the films are of a humorous nature, and of their class are excellent. “The Runaway Horse, The Crazy Juggler,” and “Beware of the Bull” were about the best of these. A speciality was the colored film entitled “The Tempter Vanquished. “The Tragedy of the Mill” .and “The Rival Lovers” were admirable examples of films of the more serious nature. The performance on the whole was one of the best seen in Gisborne for some time, and several of the pictures were greeted with quite a demonstration of applause. Tonight the same programme will be repeated, and an entire change is promised for Wednesday and Friday
