COMMITTED FOR TRIAL

WELLINGTON, Oct, 2S

At- the Magistrate’s Court to-day, a young man named Charles Reston was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge of breaking and entering a dwelling-house at Wadestown, and stealing jewellery therefrom. The accused was identified by means of the finger print system. BUTTER AND CHEESE. AUCKLAND. Oct. 28. The steamer Corinna, leaving Oneliunga next Sunday, will take 10,500 boxes of butter (and 250 cases of cheese to Wellington for transhipment to the Athenic, leaving that port for London on Thursday next. EXPORT OF BULLION. Bullion to the value of £60,000 was shipped by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co.’s steamer Athenic, which sailed for London via southern ports to-day. THE AUCKLAND OYSTER BEDS. During the first season of State control of the oyster beds the number of sacks distributed from the Auckland depot was 10,982.

TITE ISLINGTON BURGLARIES. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 28. The two men, Edward Potts and Frederick Creager, were again before the Court this morning, charged with breaking and entering the residence of Oswald Kelly, at Islington, land stealing therefrom household- furniture and effects to the value of £36 3s 3d. Chief-Detective Bishop, who prosecuted for the -police, stated t-lic men had admitted the theft and the property had been recovered. Accused pleaded guilty, -and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. A f urther charge against the accused of having stolen from -the Islington railway station various articles valued at £SO, also the property of Oswald Kelly, was, on the application of Chief-Detective Bishop, remanded for a week. ACCIDENT TO A JOCKEY.

A jockey named Geo. Pine was thrown off a. horse during training operations at Iticcarton this morning, He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken in an ambulance to the Racecourse Hotel. Dr. Westeura was telephoned for, and on arrival pronounced Pine to he suffering from slight concussion of the brain, but no serious consequences are anticipated. THE McLEAN INSTITUTE.

The McLean Institute Board have appointed Miss M. L. Higgins, at present matron of the Rhodes Memorial Convallescent Home, to the position of matron of the McLean Institute.
