EX-JUDGE CONOLLY

AUCKLAND, Nov. 9. Ex-Judge Conolly died last night in his 83rd year. He was stricken with paralysis Cast Thursday.
[The Hon. Edward Tennyson Conoily was born in 1822. Ills father, Dr. John Conolly, was eminent for works on insanity and treatment of the insane. Mr. Conolly was called to the bar by the Honorable Society of the Inner Temple in 1852, and practised tfeut. 13 years in England. Ho came to New Zealand in July, 1865, and was admitted barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court in October of that year. He began practice at Picton, taking from the first ail active part in public affairs. In January, 1867, lie was elected to represent Picton on the -Marlborough Provincial Council, and held the position till the a'bolition of the Provinces in 1876. In December, 1881, lie was elected member for Picton in the House of Representatives. In October, 1882, ho became Minister of Justice in tlio Whitaker Ministry. He held that office in the Ministry as reconstructed by Major Atkinson, in which he was also Attorney-General. He went out of office on the resignation of the Atkinson Government in 1884, and sat as one of the Opposition till the dissolution of Parliament in 1887. Ho did not offer himself for re-election. In August, ISS9, lie was appointed judge of the Supreme Court, and he resigned that office in 1903.]
