POVERTY BAY RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
The Poverty Bay Rifle Association held thgir sixth annual prize meeting at the Makauri range yesterday. The weather was favorable for shooting. The day was cool, the light good, and there was very little wind. The officers in charge of the matches were: —Executive officer, Lieut.-Col-onel AVinter, V.D. ; committee, Captains Beere and Tombleson, Lieut. Somervell, Sergts. Rait and Breingan, Messrs Farrell and O’Meara; hon. quartermaster, Q.-M. Sergt. Zachaj*iah) hoi}, (secretary, 'Lieut. 0. Hellier
Evans. Thirteon prizes, of a total value of £7, wore given in each match, four of them being for tyros. The following were the prize winners : —-
DOMINION ’ MATCH, 200yds, 7 shots. —Sergt. Rait 33, Private Allen 33, Sergt..Jlroingan 31, Private Cannon 30, Corporal Highain 30, Mr. Branson 30, Captain Tombleson 30, Private Dickson 29, Private Hingston 29.

The Teams Cup was won by the Gisborne Rifles No. 1 team, consisting of Sergts. Rajt and Breingan, Corporal Highain, Privates Alien and Cameron, with 423 points. The Gisborne Rifles No. 2 team was second with 395 points; the East Coast Mounted Rifles team third with 359 points; and tho Waimata Rifle Club team fourth with 307. points. THE COLEMAN SHIELD. AVON BY NAPIER GUARDS. [Press Association.J HASTINGS, Nov. 9. The annual competition between teams reprcsenlting the volunteer corps in the district for the Coleman Shield took place at the Roy’s Hill range, near' Hastings, to-day. The shield was won by the Napier Guards, with a score of 1053, beating the previous record, that of last year, by 33 points. The Napier Rifles were second with a score of 1004, and the Dannevirke Rifles third with 992. Sergt.-Major Humphries, of the Hawke’s Bay Mounted Rifles, with a score of 93, won tho Bolton Cup for the best score by a- member of a (mounted corps, and he also won the champion belt.
