SCULLING.

THE WH ELCH-THOROU GH GOOD

MATCH

George Whelcli, of Aharon, who is to race Thoroughgood, is actively at work sculling on. the Raymond Terrace course every day (says the Sydney correspondent of the “Dominion”), and Thoroughgood .is also hard at work, both men putting 12 miles a day. The other day Whelcli was caught in a storm, when he* demonstrated that lie was .able to maintain a strong stroke in rough water. Gundy, his trainer, likes the Raymond Tcrraoe course, and thinks that his man. will row a good race upon it. YVhelch’s method of training is to walk about six miles before breakfast,' then after breakfast row six miles, and have another walk before his mid-day meal. After taking this meal, he rests until 3.30, when he rows- another six miles, 'and in the evening, before going to bed, lie has another walk. His training boat weighs only 231b5., and his new one, which he is expecting every day, will weigh only 201bs. He tried to get the services of Tresidder as a. rowing companion, but, as he has given up sculling, was unsuccessful, and negotiations are going on with Fred Ford.
