The opposition to* the Education Bill compromise is increasing,, both from Nonconformists and churchmen, despite Mr. Runeiman’s warning that there was no hope of legislation this Parliament if the present opportunity passed.

It is understood that Lord Rosebery’s Committee on the reform of the House of Lords recognises the expediency of altering the composition of the Chamber, and securing wider representation of the varied interests of the country than the hereditary principle ensures. It believes that reform will be doubly valuable if effected iat a time when the House occupies a high position ill the country’s estimation.
