REMARKS BY JUSTICE COOPER

AVELLINGTON, Nov. 20
A boy tinder 16 years of age came before Mr. Justice Cooper to-day for sentence on a charge of breaking and entering. Counsel pleaded that the crimes were due to the lad's mind being saurated with penny clieadlul novels. Commenting on this case, his Honor said: “In spite of criticism, I say that booksellers who, for the sake of making a few shillings, sell these 'penny dreadful publications, have a responsibility which they do not appreciate.” He added that men who sold such pestilential literature were just as guilty of committing offences against the peace and credit of the community as a man who sold poison. ________
