To work the Nimrod south under her sails would make it a far less strain on the vessel, and make it much easier and more comfortable for those oil board than itwas when she v as being towed by tlie ivoonya. Granting that wind and weather were favorable. Captain Evans said that he hoped to reach the uack bv Christmas Day. and the time* of the vessel’s -arrival at Mount Erebus would be largely governed by the conditions of the ice. j Note. —Captain Evans, who is now jn'command of the Nimrod, commanded the Union Co.'s s.s. Ivoonya when the latter towed the exploring vessel to the Far South last year.]
