GISBORNE GRAZING RUNS.
A CHRISTCHURCH OPINION. GOVERNMENT JOURNAL SIDES WITH AIR. BLACK. [Special to “Times.”] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 25. The “Lyttelton Times,” referring to a letter which it -publishes 'from Air. G. J. Black, of Gisborne, regarding bis dispute with the Lands Department over his son’s small grazing run, remarks that Air. AlcNab’s explanation for the subdivision of Air. Black’s run is that by a clerk’s error in tlie Hawke’s Bay Land Office-Air. Black’s holding was described in the Schedule sent to Wellington :as “suitable for subdivision,” while Air. Hall’s holding was described as “not suitable for subdivison.” To this Air. G. J. Black now replies that the schedule was accompanied by the ranger’s reports and that if the Alblister -did not read them he ought to have done so. AYithout casting any reflection upon Air. McNab’s integrity or upon his administration, wc can sav there is a great deal in this contention. If there is no system in the Lands Department that prevents a clerk’s mistake affecting the disposition ol largo -areas of public land it is quite time such a system was .introduced. AYe are sure 'that Air. AlcNab and his colleagues would welcome a- searching inquiry into the whole matter, and wo trust that now the heat and turmoil of the election have passed, Air. Black’s charge will be -submitted to an independent commission.
