THE NELSON EXHIBITION. [Press Association.] XELSOX, Nov. 2-3. The Agricutural and Pastoral Show concluded to-day ill glorious weather. There was a record attendance. The exhibits showed some falling off in li umber as compared with last year but an all-round improvement in ity. TARANAKI.

Mr. Hastie’s Fielding won the hunter's competition., shared honors in the dual jumping with Mr. Bolton’s Alpine, and won the ladies’ plate. The hunters’ steeplechase competition was won by Mr-A. Mitchell s chestnut Park, the championship thor- -• ouglibred stallion by H. Good’s Maniapoto. championship draught stallion bv J. Mitchell’s Knight of Waihi, and the championship thoroughbred maro bv Mrs. W. Bayley’s Shiela. ‘The Taranaki Agricultural Society’s show opened yesterday- in fine weather. The exhibits are above the average. The Hon. J. D. Ormond’s Lady “Glen was champion draught mare. Other awards were: Champion Jersey buill, Short’s Pride of Beaconsfiekl 1, Griffiths -and Cornwall’s imported bull Campaniles Sultan being second, and Clarke’s Star- * light reserve champion jWatkin’s Heather champion cow, Clarke’s LadyDisdain second, and Griffiths andCornwall's Magnets Peggy reserve champion. In the Aberdeen and Angus classes, J. J. Campbell took all the awards. Pedigree Shorthorns, Hoskin’s Carnegie champion bull, Gibson's Cambridge Rose champion cow; Holsteins, Newton King’s bull champion; Ayrshires, Hawkins and O.’sen were the chief prize-takers. Sheep: English Leicesters, Hoskin anti Corrigan divided the awards; s Border Leicesters, Corrigan; in Lincoins Gadsbv- defeated Corrigan; Hampslii-res,” Newton King; iShropsliiros, Corrigan and Campbell. Berkshire pigs: Stalls took all prizes. Factory butter: Bell Block won Lov'el and Christmas’ 75-guinea trophy, Wairea being second. The society's 25,guinea trophy also fell to Bell Block, with Tarata second. _ At the society’s annual dinner last night, Mr. Gilruth was presented with a gqid medal, and made a life member of tlio society-. OTAGO. DUNEDIN. Nor. 26. For the Otago Agricultural Show there was line weather. Title sheep formed a record exhibit. The strongest classe s were Romney Marsh mul Border and English Leicesters. The results were: In merinos Watson Sliennan. woii unopposed. N. M. Orbell scored most points in Border Leicester, but J. Gemmelil won the championship for ram and J. Ross the championship for ewe. The competi- - tion in English Leicesters was confined to E. Kelland and A. Murdock, and Kelland won all along the lino in Lincolns with all the exhibits except two shown by r the New Zealand A. and Land 1 Company-, but Seth-Smith secured the championship for rams. 11l Shropshire Downs Seth-Smith was also successful. In Shorthorn cattle Arthur Chamberlan (Ellesmere) won the classes for all-aged bulls, two-year-old bulls, yearling bulls, all-aged cows, throe-year-ehl heifers, cow and two of her progeny-, and championship bull. John Deans’ estate won the two-ycar-okl heifers, yearling heifers, tliree-year-oldi cows, and championship cow. In Ayrshires A. McKerrow’s bull won the championship. The principal winner in other classes was A. Gillies, whoso Rota 111. was deemed best cow. In pigs, the hoard was swept by Charles Jlrico, of Christchurch. The entries totalled 799 as against 734 last year, and made up as follows : —Sheep 254, cattle 131, horses 357, pigs 47. The quality of the cattle and sheep was the best yet seen at an Otago show and 1 the competition was very keen. In cattle the exhibits from Canterbury were much superior to those' from Otago, and the former t gained over 80 per cent, of the honors. In sheep, Romneys stood out by themselves, the judges’ opinion being that they are equal to any yet shown in the Dominion.
