COMMONWEALTH POLITICS APPOINTMENT OF STATE GOVERNORS. LORD CREWE’S OPINIONS. United Peess Association. Copyeight ADELAIDE, Nov. 26. The Premier tabled Lord Crewe's despatch in reference to the appointment of State Governors. He says that the suggestion that the appointments should he made Lynn Australian citizens involves a far-reaching change which could not, he considered, he entertained in any case unless it applied to all Australian States, not one alone, and until the public by petition demonstrated overwhelmingly m its favor. Ho adds that no doubtmuch can ho said in favor of the Canadian system, under which 1 the Central Government anoints the Provincial Governors. It the people of Australia desired >a similar system the Imperial Government in all probability would he disposed to advise the King to meet .their wishes.
THE CAPITAL SITE. THE IRON BONUS BILL. MELBOURNE, Nov. 26. Mr. Fisher stated that the Capital Site Bill would ask for an area of 900 square miles, with access to the sea. If the Senate did 1 not agree to the amendments in the Iron Bonus Bill, it would be continued without them. The Senate negatived the proposal to purchase a site in Trafalgar Square for the London Commonwealth offices. Mr. Fisher subsequently stated that the matter would be dropped. QUEENSLAND—W ANT OF *' CONFIDENCE MOTION DEFEATED. BRISBANE, Nov. 26. Mr. Bowden’s want-of-confidcnce motion was negatived by 39 to 20. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LICENSING 3 TILL. ADELAIDE, Nov. 26. In tlio Legislative Assembly the Licensing Bill was put through committee. It includes a provision against single women being granted licenses, and it prohibits the employment of barmaids after 9 at night.
