RUA’S OFFER. MAORI LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT Run. the Maori "prophet,” had an interview with the lion. James Carroll yesterday, and during the conversation offered to sell 190,000 acres of land to the Government ut a valuation, -and asked that the Native Lands Commission should visit the district and inquire into the titles 01 the land. The Minister for Native Affairs accepted the offer of the sale of the .land, and promised _Rua that the Native Land Commission would visit- the district as soon as possible. ]vua explained that the money from the sale of the land would be used for forming the Maungapohatu stock track, and promised to give the Government every assistance to open up the Urowera country.
