NAPIER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
PBJSSIDEXT'S ADDRESS. [Pkess Association.] NAPIER, Nov. 26. At the annual meeting of the Napier Chamber of Commerce to-day, the president (Mr. C. Ellison), in bis address, made reference to tho financial stringency. He alluded to the withdrawal 'from the Dominion of practical'iv all bona fide mortgage companies', who had -'been driven out as a result of the operations of the Advances in .Settletv Act. Continuing, he exprc.o-ci [ the opinion that the mortgage tax .should he abolished- and foreign "eanital be allowed' to compete on equal terms with rim Government Department. In conclusion, ho said he hoped soon to see business resume its normal condition. Iho address did not evoke any discussion.
