In the House of Representatives the debate on the Government policy was concluded. Mr. Deakin plainly intimated that the Fisher Government would not he able.to go far in its legislation if it departed from what lie had brought in himself.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA. A STATE COAL MINE. ADELAIDE, Nov. 28. The Legislative Assembly passed a Bill authorising the Government to purchase a Slate coal mine at Maitland.

A PROMISE OF PROTECTION
MELBOURNE, Nov. 28
Mr. Fisher, at a banquet given by tlie Chamber .of Manufacturers, dealing with the progress of Australia under protection, claimed that 22,000 employees were added to industries during the past year. The new Government would give the manufacturers every assistance required in getting industries pi’otected, and seeming the whole of the Australian trade. Air. Deakin. said that during the term of the late Government the trade of Queensland increased by £4,000,000, Victoria by £7,250,(000, and that of New South .Wales £7,500,000.
