The opening day’s racing in connection with the Takapuna Jockey Club’s spring meeting took place on the"club’s course at the North Shore this afternoon. Tile weather was fine, and despite the strong counter,attraction of the show there was a goods attendance. The sum of £772 1 10s was invested on the .tptalisator. Results: — " Trial Handicap, 1 mile.—Eseamillo 9.0 (Buchanan) 1, blaster Crespin 8.0 (Brady) 2, Silent 8.4 (McMillan) 3. Also started: Puj>enui 8.10, Explosive 8.5, St. Cyren 8.4, Okailiau 8.0. AVon comfortably by a neck.- Time, Imin 47sec.
Cambrian Handicap, 4. furlongs.— Snowfoot 7.5 (Deeley) 1. Sea Elf 8.6 (Buchanan) 2, Etna S.lO (Ryan) 3. Also started: Exclalibur 7.13, Effulgence 7.5, Elegance 7.5, Le Reine 7.5. AVon by two lengths. Time, 5m in 1 4-osec.
St. Andrew’s Handicap. If miles. — Advocate 7.3 (Deeley) and Poliutu 7.1 (Brown) dead heat. First Gun 6.10 (C. Brown) 3. Also started: Tui Cakobau 7.4, Millie 7.2, Star Rose 7.2, Landlock 6.10, and Rimlock 6.10. At the distance Advocate was the leader, but a little further on Poliutu dashed up on the outside, and, catching Advocate, a short distance from the post, the pair flashed past together, the judges declaring a dead-heat. First Gun was a length and a half away third, with Tui Cakobau fourth. Time, 2min 12 l-oseo. Handicap Maiden Hurdles, 11 miles and 100 yards.—Luscombe 10.1 (Cowan) 1, Carlyle 9.0 (McKinnon) 2, Mark Time 9.6 (Julian) 3.
