WHATATUTU RACING CLUB
BOXING DAY MEETING
The Whatatutu Racing Club will hold their annual meeting on the Whatatutu racecourse on Boxing Day. Special trains will run to the Pulia station for the meeting, and coaches will connect with the trains for the course. Seven events are comprised in the programme. These include the District Handicap, 1 mile; Mangatu Hurdles, 11 mile; Maiden Scurfy, 4 furlongs; Pony Handicap;" 4 furlongs; Whatatutu Cup, II miles; Flying' Handicap, 6 furlongs; and Consolation Handicap, 7 furlongs. The nominations will be published in to-morrow’s issue.
TE KARAKA RACING CLUB. - r NOMINATIONS. The annual meeting of the To Karaka Racing Club, to be held on New Year’s Day, January Ist, 1909, promises to be successful. Nominations for several of the events closed on Saturday evening, and there will be very fair fields. The club has gone to some expense since last meeting in improving the course and the buildings thereon. The stand has been enlarged so as to accommodate morepeople, new conveniences have been erected, jockey and weighing rooms have been built, the stewards’ room has been renovated, and a bird-cage will soon be completed. A new plough track was recently made, and lias been put to considerable use by trainers.- The club are paying special attention to the track proper, and before the meeting they will disc and roll it, so as to get it into first-class order. On the day of the meeting there will be special excursion railway fares to Te Karaka, and a visit to the course, which is charmingly situated, will' no doubt be appreciated by townsfolk, even if not inclined towards racing. It is anticipated that a few more nominations may be possibly received from Te Karaka. The list at 9 o’clock on Saturday night for the three principal events tvas as follows :
