THE WEATHER.
Yesterday morning broke dully, and there were not wanting those who prophesied a heavy downpour. Up till midday the air was very sultry, and shortly after thVit hour mm commenced to fail, and continued almost incessantly until atfter midnight. The wind in the morning was blowing strongly from the north-east and in the afternoon it veered round to westerly ,and finally to south, from which quarter it (blew with considerable force in the eamly _ evening. There was la nasty sea running in the J3ay, and as a consequence of this and the rain loading operations on the s s Mimiro were consider*tbly hampered*. * The .schooner Awanui was due to leave the .Bay for Tologa Bay to load wool, but .again the adverse weather prevailed, and she was compelled to return to port. After midnight the rain ceased, and with the wind a few points further to the westward there was every indication of the storm coming to an end.
[Peess Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 16. There, was good rain again last night, assuring the maintenance of the milk supplies for some time. NELSON Dec. 16. Welcome rain has 'fallen. DUNEDIN Dec. 16. The heaviest December rains in Tapanui district for the past three years have fafilen. The crops of gruss seed are beaten fiat.
