AUCKLAND Dec. 16

Thomas Bulger, second cook of the steamer Flora, sustained a -rather serious accident this afternoon whilst on board the vessel. Meeting in the steerage a passenger in the head of the companion-way, Bulger stepped backward to let the other pass, and went so far back as to fail! over tflie combings of the hatchway, and down the hatch for -a distance of 22 feet. He was picked up in a semi-conscious condition, and taken to the hospital, where it was found that his left

was -broken bellow the knee, and that several ribs bad been fractured.
