OBITUARY.

Mrs. Thomas Quinn, a lady esteemed by a wide circle of friends in Gisborne, died at 2.45 !a.m. yesterday. She was nearly 8-4 years of age, and was a very old colonist. Her husband, who arrived in New Zealand first, was present at the Thames rush after the discovery by Hunt. He sent Home for Mrs. Quinn, who joined him at the Thames. After residing on the Thames goldfields for a number of years the family proceeded to the Ohinemuri district.. About 12 years ago Mr. and ilo. Quinn, senr., came to Gisborne. The former died about seven years ago, and Mrs. Quinn resided with her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Martin. The deceased lady had been in poor health /for two or three years past, but had 'always rallied until the past few weeks. She leaves five daughters and three sons:- —Mesdames J. 'H. Martin (Gisborne), J. Clarke (New' Plymouth), Hayes (Thames), Fitzpatrick (Te Aroha), Bain (Waikino), and Messrs E. Quinn (Auckland), Thomas Quinn (Western Australia), and J. R. Quinn ('Gisborne): Mesdames Hayes and Clarke are in Gisborne. The funeral is to leave St. Mary’s Church at 2-30 p.m. to-day. [Feess Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 17. Mr. Francis Thomas Haskins died yesterday. He was for many years town clerk of the city. He reliquished the position in April, 1901, at a time when the City Council undertook reorganisation of the staff, and has not since figured in public life. He rvas aged 79. [Mr. Haskins held the position of town clerk of Christchurch for over a quarter of a century, and was celebrated for his wide knowledge or piunicipal Oaw. He was father of Dr. Guy Haskins, famous in athletic circles.]
