GERMAN DESERTERS.

FROM THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION. STICK UP A PASSENGER TRAIN. United Press Association. Copyright MOROCCO; Dec. 16. After three months’ service, fifty-' four Germans, of the Foreign Legion, at Colobk-echar deserted, with their arms. They held up a passenger train bound 1 for Oran, and afterwards disappeared in the desert towards the Moorish frontier, 500 miles distant. All were captured except the ringleader, ia- Bavarian' ex-officer. It is believed that, they acted in concert with a German desertion agency.

[The French Foreign Legion, which serves in Africa and other colonial possessions of the - Republic, is recruited from all nations. No questions \ are asked as to recruits’ antecedents, and so the legion becomes a refuge for adventurers of all sorts. Discipline is very strict, t'he officers are extremely able men, and the Legion has done excellent service , on many occasions. It was over the desertion of some Germans from the Foreign Legion that the recent Casablanca trouble arose between France and Germany.]
