A NEW ZEALAND MARATHON RACE.

ASHBURTON, Dec. 18

At an influential meeting of iama : teur athletes, past and present, or the Ashburton County, this evening, it was •decided to hold a (Marathon race towards tlio end of March, the course to be from Rakftia to Ashburton Domain, a distance _of 20 miles. A trophy valued at 2o guineas is to be offered as a first prize, and others will also be awarded. The Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has raven the necessary permission, and at is expected that the event, the first of the kind in the Dominion, will be productive of keen interest.
