THE CANTERBURY WELCOME. A FUNCTION POSTPONED. [Press Association.] CHRISTOHURCH, Dec. 20. Acting on the best information available, ami anxious to bo the first to <lo honor to the World’s Champion (Sculler, the lamateiu* rowing men in the city intended extending a 'welcome to It. Arnst this morning, and the President of the Christchurch Regatta Club (Mr F. J. 'Cowfish aw), had sent out invitations for the function. It appears, however, that the information on’which action was tnken, was not accurate, as it was ascertained that Arnst had not left the North Island. The .function Wis, therefore, postponed, and will take placo either on Monday or Tuesday morning. ' The residents of Taitapu, tlie champion’s birthplace, intend entertaining Arnst at a social gathering on Tuesday evening, when a presentation 'will be made to him. WANGANUI, Dec. 20. Arnst leaves for the south on Monday. Webb intends visiting Rotorua, after which, it is .said, he intends to resume training.
