THE DUNEDIN NORTH ELECTION.
PETITION BY MR. BARCLAY
[Press Association.]
DUNEDIN, Dec. 21
The latest phase in the recent Dunedin North parliamentary recount is that Mr. A. R. Barclay to-day decided to proceed by election petition. Mr. Barelav states that the issue is narrowed down to three questions: First, was the returning officer justified in striking off votes for Mr. Barclay on the ground of dual voting?; second, was Mr. Barclay entitled to ono or more votes which we.ro treated as informal? ; third, was it right to accept absent voters’ votes for Mr. Thomson and reject those for Mr. Barclay? The petition is filed on the basis of the number of -votes recorded being the same as was found by tlio returning officer on the official'recount. The question of missing votes arises in no way. Under the Act a special Court of two Judges has to be appointed by the Chief Justice to hear the petition.
