Davies, L. Manning, R. G. Hallamore, and T. Armstrong. Emergencies: H. and J. Wack, C. Lasker, and J. Charles. The match commences at 10.30 a.m. A. M. Howden, the well-known Auckland and North Shore representative arrived on a flying visit to Gisborne by the s.s. Manuka yesterday morning, and returns to Auckland on Saturday morning to- help his province t-o defend the Plunket Shield in the match against Otago, commencing on Monday next. Howden is wellknow® in cricket and, golf circles in Gisborne, having resided here for a short period some six months' ago. The manager of the Poverty Bay team to visit Napier has received the following letter from a well-known resident of the East Coast: “I wish your representative team every success on its tour. If you will accept the offer, I will give a bat to- tlie player who acquits himself the best in the field, the whole team to make the award at the conclusion of the last match of the tour. The winner can choose his own bat, the tradesman to send his account to me. I have always held that fielding in teams is paid too little attention to, and would always give a really energetic field preference, even when his batting might he indifferent.” This generous offer should spur the members of the team on to put forth their very best, efforts in tlie field, and it is especially pleasing to see that the doings of the-Poverty Bay^representatives attract the iterest of enthusiasts so far afield as the -writer of this letter.
