EVIDENCE AT THE -INQUEST

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 25
At the inquest on Charles Bloin-o-ren n, member of Von. Graens orchestra ■ with West’s Pictures, who was drowned in the Avon near Purwood, on Wednesday, Constable Rowe stated that the boat was ver> li<dit and cranky, and quite unhtfor carrying more than one crer. The three occupants were not expert in the handling of boats, and none couikl swim. The‘bystanders on the further bank of the river, vhen ■asked to- render assistance, that none could swim. The mannei in which the boat had been overturned was inexplicable, as the were not changing places. The boat began to take in water and immediately all three wbro thrown out. Two of the occnffants scrambled, on the keel, but the deceased was able to get bold of the .-boat. Ihe coroner returned a verdict cb accidentally drowned through the upsetting of a boat.
