GRATING

Wills Avas washed-ashore on a grating. He had a terrible experience drifting throughout the night. He was several times washed off, with great difficulty regaining tlio grating. Two steamers passed close to him in the darkness, but his cries failed to reach them..., Nearing the beach the grating turned over, and he was nearly drowned. He landed in a terribly exhausted condition, his only clothes being a shirt and boots. Mr. Wills was the mate' of the tug Advance, which was run into and sunk by the ship Ivema, off Newcastle,, oil the night of December 26.; He is the sole survivor of the disaster, • - <
