OBITUARY.
[Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 28. Or R. H. Bakewell died on Saturday night, following upon .an apoplectic seizure. Ho was 77 years of sge. The late Df Bakewell was a wellknown medical practitioner, of wide experience. He served in -the Crimean'War ias ian army surgeon and lived for some time in the West 'lndies. After coming to New Zealand he practised his profession at Hokitika, Christchurch, apjd .for the last fifteen years in Auckland. He was a prolific writer and wedded a ready and witty pen. He engaged, largely in newspaper correspondence on -many subjects, and took an active part through the Press in combating the starvation cure theory when the Wanganui cases were before the attention of the public.
