GISBORNE CLUB

The weather yesterday was admirable for bowling and, despite ‘the counter attractions of races • and other gatherings, thero was a goodly onuster on tho ground of the Gisborne Bowling Club. Tho green was in first-class playing order. Owing to a variety of circumstances no match games were played, but the members present had an enjoyable day’s play in practice matches. The results of the principal games were as follows: Wootton, .Mclntosh, Coleman, Siuvson (skill) (25) beat ~W. Pettie,' Eure, Witty, R. Crawford (skip) (16). In u second Igamo -between the above rinks the scores were even —21 all —on the 20th head. Sirnson gained one on the final head, winning by 22 to 21.

R. G. Crawford, Collins, Ambridge, Coleman (skip) (17) beat W. Pettie, Morgan, Ponsford (skip) 16. O’Meara, Wilson, Pavitt, Eure (skip) i(24) beat H. Lewis, Gilmore, Paltridge, Witty (skip) 18. Townson, AVilson, .-Birss (skip) (26) beat Cussen, Brown, Ambridge (skip) 21. Richards and Johnstone 23 boat Ingram and Murray 16. _ O’Meara and Paltridge (2o) beat Lewis and Redstone (23).

Players assembled in (good force on the Turanganui _ green yesterday, when a full day’s enjoyment was indulged in, play commencing at, 10 a.m. At 1 o’clock the rinks were closed, and reopened at. 2 P-ni.? avhen their was a larger attendance than in the morning. The green was running very keen, and good games veie witnessed. The rinks were more oi less taken up with matches, no Jess than ten games in the Bennett Gup singles being got off. Afternoon tea was provided by the Vice-President, Air D Hepburn, who was kindly assisted by Mrs M. Skimming, the refreshments being much appreciated. The following are the results or the match , games: — A. Sawyer (2£) beat P. Hallam (lo). Up to the 13th head the game was Hallam’s, he then being 14 to 6. However, Sawyer, securing the jack, put up short heads and quickiy overhauled -his opponent, who was only able to score on one of the remaining heads, Sawyer eventually winning by 3 seven points. . M A. Neill (18) beat M. G. Nasmith, junr., (12). The game was decidedly even to the 11th head, the scores fihen being 6 all. On tlie next five Nasmith got a lead oi 6, but Neill, making a splendid recoverv, drew with consistency and turned tho tables, winning at the finish bv 6 points. J. Stormont (22) beat \Y. Ratcliffe (15). (Stormont established a good lead, and never had the issue in doubt. _ / A. Sawyer (23) beat J‘. P. Williams (Jl). The game was close to the 12th head, with the scores RT all. From this point, however, Williams failed, •Sawyer winning as he liked.

W. R a tel iff o (21) beat W. H. Douglas (13). When the Bth head wis reached Douglas led by one, hut Ratcliff e soon reversed' things, gettinjg home with 8 to spare. ■J. Stormont (24) beat W. Hay (11). The issue was never in doubt at any point of tlie game. B. Hiid (16) heat W. Rateliffe (15). This furnished a good, game •and an exciting finish. On the 12th bead R-itcliffo led by 10 to 8, but on tlie 16th head Hint was 15 —10. Ratcliffe scored on four of the remaining heads, and suffered defeat by one point. Af. G. Nasmith, junr., (19) beat B. Hird (17). This furnished an excellent game, the scores being 7 all on the 6th head,*l3 all on the, 16th head, and 17 all on the 20tli head. Nasinith put up 2 on the last head and won.

J. Stormont (22) beat M. A. Neill (17). Stormont led throughout and was never seriously troubled, Neill hiving an uphill game from the start.

A. Sawyer (18) beat W. H. Douglas (15). In this game tlie score stood at 6 even on the 7th head, and 13 even on the loth head,,' Sawyer winning the game in the last three heads. . To-day the games will be continued, and afternoon tea will bo provided.
