INCREASED REVENUE
Despite the general cry of a,, slackness in trade during 1908 theli annual return of customs duties collected at the Gisborne Custom House showing an increase of . .nearly £4OOO over those for 1907. The total revenue for that year being £40,628, 19s lOd, and for 1908 £44,572. 17s, an exact excess of £3943 17s 2d. The following table slioivs the 'amounts for the various items upon which, duty was levied :
