GISBORNE’S EXPORTS.

A DECREASE IN VALUE

The annual returns made up hv the Collector of Customs at Gisborne show’ that during the year just closed there was .a decrease in the value of the principal exports from Gisborne of £83,453, as compared with those for 1907.. The totals were £899,254 'for 1908 and for the previous year. The value of the butter, exported increased by £IOOS, beef by £11,692 iand Jamb by £24,093. Hides decreased by £2,003, mutton £14,707, skins £27,698, tab low’ £2497, arid wool £73,338. Tile decrease in the value of the w r ool exported is due to some extent to the fall in values on the London -market, but chiefly to the fact that a Largo portion of tlie new’ season’s, wool was shipped late in 1907. Tho following show’s the value of tliet chief exports for the month of December : —Butter, 513 cwt, £2634; beef, 1226 cwt, £1299; mutton, 11,642 carcases, or 6298 cwt, £8102; lamb, 93 carcases, or 28 cwt, £46; skins (with wool), 4935, £1114; tallow, 51 tons, £1162; hides, 657, £657; wool (greasy), 3.038,779 lbs, £77,445; slipe, 89,323 lbs, £2431-; scoured, 33,144 lbs, £BSB. For tho quarter: Butter, 860 cut, £4447; beef. 2SOO cwt, £3603; mutton. 823 carcases, or 12,33(5 cwt, £16,807 ; lamb, 93 carcases or 28 ewt, £46; tallow’, 107 toils. £2214; skins (with wool), 8528, £1942; -hides. 818, £S7B; wool (greasy) 5,942,363 lbs, £152,355; slipe, 126,4461b5, £3607; .scoured, 33,1441b5, £BBB.
