AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
NUHAKA A. AND P. ASSOCIATION A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. [Special to “Times:”] *WAHIOA, Jan. 2. Tho Nuhaka Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show was held on New Year’s Day in perfect weather. It was the most successful gathering the Association lias yet held, botli from the point of view of quantity and quality of entries, as well as the attendance of the public. Not only had the bulk of the population from all the country-side rolled up to participate in what is very largely an annual reunion, but -a number "of visitors from Gisborne were also present. The fertile valley of Nuhaka is at present looking at its best and, in consequence of Nature’s prodigality in regard to food supplies, afl stock exhibited was in hue condition. The chief feature of the show was the horses, which as a collection might have easily graced a much more pretentious gathering. The general standard was good and tho presence of many prizetakers at the last Gisborne Show helped materially to raise tho average. The sheep showed a marked improvement on former years, but the standard is not nearly as high as the conditions of the district warrant. No locality in the Dominion should be able to give better results with Romneys and Lincolns than Nuhaka. There were a •few nice dairy cows, but here again there is still room for improvement. The jumping competitions were keenly contested, and the display as a whole was really first-class. The pony leaping class showed < extraordinary proficiency on the part o*f the juveniles. In the ladies’ hunter competition Miss -Maultsaid, the well-known equestrienne from Wharerata, achieved a ainique triumph by ridinjg the first, second and third placed horses in that event. Mr C. Fenwick, of Gisborne, judged the light horses arid competitions; 31 r J. C. Field, of Makauri, the stud sheep; Mr J. McIvellar, the draught-horses; Mr C. Fenwick, fat sheep; and Mr J. Riddle, the dogs. The show was excellent, reflecting credit on hlie officials, who left no stone unturned to bring about success. The secretary (Mr J. S. Cooper) in particular, was indefatigable in his efforts. The excellent catering of Mr V- Bluck is also deserving of special mention. The following is tho prize list: —
