SALVATION ARMY.
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES. In connection with the twenty-sec-ond anniversary of the Gisborne corps of the Salvation Army, special services were held on Saturday and yesterday. On Saturday evening an open-air meeting was conducted in Lowe Street, by 3'lajor Holdaway, assisted by Lieutenant Hansford ! (Opotiki). The Army band was in I attendance, and there was a • good I muster of members of the corps and I the general public. Yesterday a I meeting for prayer was held at i a.m., and was well attended. The devotions were conducted by Lieutenant Hansford. At 11 a.m. a holiness meeting was held in the Citadel. There was a good attendance, and an address was given by Major Holdaway, who based his discourse on the question of St. Paul, just after his conversion, “Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?” At 3 p.m. Major Holdaway conducted a young people’s meetings in which he was assisted by the teachers of the Young People’s Society. There was a good attendance at this gathering, which was held in the Young People’s Hall. A well-attended open-air meeting took place in Gladstone Road in the evening, about 50 members of the corps taking part in the march, which was headed by the band. This was follow, ed bv a great Salvation meeting in the Citadel, which was well-filled. Many of those present were old friends of 3lajor Holdaway. who had specially come to hear him. _ - The Major was assisted in the service by Adjutant Dickens*, Captain Jenkins, and Lieutenant Hansford. He gave an address on the text, “3ly. spirit shall not always strive with man,” Genesis VI., 3. During the day twenty-four persons made profession of conversion. To-night o. meeting wi]l be held in the Citadel, where 3lajor Holdaway will give, an address on “Old War 3lemories—recollections of days gone by.” To-morrow evening the anniversary tea meeting will take- place in the Citadel, and will be followed by a public meeting at S p.m., presided over by 3lr. John Townley. At this meeting Adjutant and Mrs. Dickens and Captain Jenkins will speak a few farewell words. Their final farewell is to he said on Sunday next. It is hoped tjiat. to-morrow night fhev will he in a position to announce whither they are going and also who will succeed Adjutant Dickens in charge of the. Gisborne corps.
