The United States Congress meets on J\;londay to pass President Roosevelt’s suggested appropriation of 500,000 dollars for tlie earthquake relief fund.
ROME, Jan. 3
The citizens of Home have decided to present the ollicers and men of foreign warships with medals commemorative of their heroism.
PARIS, Jan. 3
“Le Temps” states that Parliament lias opened a credit for a million lire (£40,000) in addition to other gifts, also establishing a hospital with 500 beds at San Marco.
Queen Helene of Italy is working devotedly at the Messina hospital, where there was a panic yesterday in consequence of a slight earthquake shock. The Queen was slightly hurt in trying to provent a stampede.

King Emanuel and Queen Helene have returned to Rome. They received an ovation. The Italian Parliament meets on January Btli to vote 30 million lire (£1,200,000) for the immediate succour of the sufferers.
The Sultan of Turkey sent £IOOO and the Russian Red Cross Society £4OOO for the relief of the sufferers.
LONDON, Jan. 4
The Mansion House fund has reached £30,000. The Duke of Connaught gave 100 guineas. Lord Minto is organising a fund in India.

Sixteen looters at. Messina were shot .and 600 arrested yesterday. Some were attacking survivors., and others killed an Indian sailor and wounded a carabineer and a Customs official.

The Vienna Volunteer Jjife Saving Society has sent to Sicily three camp kitchens capable of feeding 24,000 people daily. ACTION IN NEW ZEALAND. RELIEF FUNDS IN WELLINGTON AND AUCKLAND. y ' WELLINGTON, Jan, 4. Mr. Ronald T. Robertson, Consular Agent for Italy, has opened a fund for the relief of the sufferers by the earthquake disaster. ' The -Italian residents of Wellington met to-night to arrange to help their compatriots who have suffered ill Italy. The sum of £4l 10s Avas subscribed .in the room and arrangements were made to get up a concert to .augment .the relief fund. x
NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT WILL CONSIDER THE MAKING OF A GRANT.
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 4. Sir, ..-Joseph:' Ward passed through
Christchurch to-night on his way to Wellington. .In the course of an interview he said that the matter oi making a ’Government grant to the Sicilian earthquake relief fund would probably ho considered at the next Cabinet meeting.
AUCKLAND, Jan. 4
Over £2OO has been, received,by the Mayor for the Italian disaster relief fund. .
