The score was even on the sth head, and from that point Douglas drew away, steadily increasing his lead to the finish. A. Zachariah (18) beat M. G. Nasmith, jur. (15). On the 4th head Nasmith fed by 7 to nil, but Zachariah drew level on the 14tli head, 11 all, ultimately getting ahead and winning by three points.

NOTES BY “TOUCHER.” The hot weather of the past lew days has interfered somewhat with play on the Gisborne rinks, although a few enthusiasts have played in the cool of the evening. During the holidays a good many games were played, chief interest being centred in the matches between teams skipped, by Crawford against other combinations. Crawford himself has been playing very consistently, but Simson has given him several keen contests. Ponsford, too, has occasionally shown a •return of his old form. It is exceedingly regrettable that Fred Martin has not been able to get back to town, as liis absence lias prevented the Napier team from having the practice that they should have had. It is not certain now when he will be back, and as the team is to leave on Sunday matters are being cut too fine. To-day Robertson’s team is to meet Simson’s in the semi-final of the fours handicap. Hennessy was to have had a bye in this,, Corson/having forfeited through being unable te play. His team, however, objected and protested to the committee, which passed the protest on to the match committee. That body decided that Hennessyshould meet Corson, and this match, too, may be played to-day. An interesting point raised in connection with this matter is-what are the precise powers of a skip in relation to his team ? A ruling will probably be sought from tlio Northern Bowling Association.
