DUNEDIN SHOOTING CASE.
COMMITTAL FOR TRIAL. [Peees Association.] DUNEDIN, Jan. 7. At the Police Court yesterday, John Stephen Toomey. aged 19, was charged with having, on December 14, discharged a loaded rifle at Daniel McCurdy, his stepfather, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. After evidence for the prosecution had been given, the accused, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial. The police opposed the application for bail on the ground that accused had since threatened to do McCurdy injury. Accused’s uncle undertook to send him to Naseby, and on accused undertaking not to further injure Iris stepfather, bail allowed, accused in £2OO and one surety of a like amount, or two ox £IOO.
