GISBORNE CLUB

There was a very large .muster of players on .tihe'green"of the Gisborne. Bowling Club yesterday afternoon, and several very interesting games were decided. One game in the contest for the President’s Cup was got. off , in which Craig beat Pavitt by ; 25 points to 12. >Paltridge -and- F. W. Pettie met H. Miller and Corson in the semi-final for the handicap pairs and gained a victory by 29 points to 14. The. game was fairly even on the twelfth head, Paltridge and Pettie being 13 points to their opponents 11. Thenceforward the former, went ahead I ''and finally won by fifteen points. They afterwards met Ambridge and Kyme in the final, and had another win, heating their opponents by 23 to 15. The rink which is to represent the Club at the Napier tournament met tlio team which is to do battle for the Trirangaimi Club at the same gathering. A substitute played in each rink, Ponsford taking the place of F. Martin in the Gisborne team, while Hird replaced Williams as leader of the Turanganui representatives. The visitors heat the Gisborne Club team by 24 points to 14. A second game was arranged, in which the Turanganui players gained a yet more decisive victory. There was a large attendance of bowlers at the Turanganui - Club’s rinks yesterday afternoon, when a number of practice and match games were played. The prevailing high westerly wind was not conducive to the best of bowling, but fortunately it dropped somewhat during the afternoon. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. A. Zachariah, who was assisted by Mrs. W. Gray (Auckland) and Miss Cohen (Wellington), the refreshments being much appreciated. The following are the results of the match games:— BENNETT CUP.

M. A. Neill (25) beat W. H. Douglas (14). —The game was even halfway through ..after which Neill drew steadily away, winning by 11 points. J. Stormont (19) beat A. Zachariah (11). —On the 12th head Stormont led by 2 points—lo to 8, and a good “go” resulted in Stormont securing victory by 8 points. M. G. Nasmith, jnr (26) beat C. J. Bennett (11). —On the 6th head_ the scores were even—4 'all, and again on the Bth. head —s all. Nasmith then got a break on, 20 to his opponent’s 1., and eventually winning by 15 points. A. Sawyer (20) beat J. Somervell (18). —This was :a splendid game, and furnished an exciting finish, the score being level—lß all on the final head. In the extra head Sawyer scored 2, and victory. C. J. Bennett (22) beat A. Zachariah (20). —The 4th head saw the came level—3 all, and again on the 14th head the players were level—l 4 all. A fine game then ensued to the finish., Bennett just getting home by 2 points. HANDICAP PAIRS. LA Section.) MeSkimming and Neill (35) beat Harries land Morse (14). —The former nair led throughout, and never left the issue in doubt, the final head showing'*3s to 9. Harries and Morse, receiving a handicap of 5 points, were thus down by over 20 points. This competition is to close to-mor-row afternoon, when the winners in the various sections will be declared.
