POVERTY BAY’ CLUB
The second round of tlie single sculling races for the “Unknown” donor’s trophy was concluded last night. T. McConnell beat Douglas, J. Nicolas beat A. Kirk, and R. Jones beat R. Sceats. The third round will be commenced to-night, when W. McGuffie meets J. Nicolas, R. Jones meets Somervell ,and L. Nicolas meets C. Clark. T. McConnell drew-a bye in tlie round.
ARNST V. BARRY.
ARNST WILLING TO ROW IN NEW ZEALAND.
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 8. Tlie Christchurch Cycling and Motor Club’s executive decided to commemorate Arnst’s victory in tlie sculling championship by a presentation from members, of the club. Arnst was for many years a prominent member on the racing track. At a meeting yesterday Arnst’s sn i '”ortors considered cables from England, inviting Arnst to row Barry, the English champion sculler, on the Thames. It was decided to cable a reply that Arust was willing to row Barry provided the contest was rowed in New Zealand, and to allow Barry £2OO for expenses to undertake tho trip. Tlie holder of tlie title has the privilege of naming the place where the championship will bo rowed.
