THE TOURNAMENT AT NAPIER. (Press Association.) NAPIER, Jan. 13. The Northern Bowling Association’s tournament was continued, at' the Napier and Greenmeadows greens today, hut on the latter -green a strong cross wind somewhat interfered with play. Palmerston North had an easy win over Upper Plains by 2S to 13, Havelock proved too much for Huwera and triumphed by 31 to 18, Thorndon v. Carlton provided a surprise, the former beating the previously. unconquered Carlton by 27 to 14. Thorndon took the lead' after the 4th head, and were never afterwards really troubled. Hastings and Newtown played a fairly even game, the former” winning by 20 to 17. Napier had no trouble in defeating Patea by 23 to 14. Greenmeadows went Tinder to Daunevirke by 19 to 11. Masterton, after an interesting game, got the best of Karori by three points, the scoros being, Masterton 17, Karori 14. Feilding v. Kelburne was a good game in the closing stages, Feilding getting home by IS to 15. Wellington never had a look in with Farndon, who won by 31 to 9. Gisborne, after leading- all through, von from Greytown hv .26 to 11. Wanganui, previously undefeated, had to strike their colors to Manaia. by 30 to 17. The winners started off well and managed to keep in front, though closely pressed at times. In the eighth round, .Gisborne defeated TV anganui after an exciting game by 20 to 19. On. tho 18th head Gisborne were 17 to Wanganui’s 14. Wanganui got five off the next head and looked like winning, but Gisborne got two and one on tlio remaining heads and won the match. Wellington was too good for Manaia, winning by 24 to 12. Feilding took the lead from Greytown after the 11th head and won by 26 to 17. Kelburne just got home from Daunevirke by 19 to 18, after an even and exciting game. Masterton had not much difficulty in winning their match against Greenmeadows, the scores being 28 and 19. Karori and Farndon had a very close game and were 17 all on the filial head. Farndon won the play-off by one point. Newt-own and Patea were level on the 6th head, hut Newtown then fell away and lost by 25 to 16, after very pretty and close play. Napier maintained their unbeaten record bv defeating Thorndon by 23 to 15. Hawera defeated Hastings by 23 to 20. Carlton (26) easily accounted for Palmertson ,(10). The game between St. John’s and Havelock saw the former, who led all the way, win by 24 to 19. Hastings and St. John’s tied with 13 each on the final head, but Hastings scored 5 in the play-off and won. Greenmeadows were successful in their match with Kelburne by 19 to 15. Dannevirkc’s win over Greytown was an easy one, the scores being 27 and 8. ■ Napier met their first "defeat at the hands of Palmerston by 23 to 21, after a close game. Wellington defeated Gisborne by 30 to 26 after a very good game, Wellington inst getting home at the finish. Ivarori, who have not yet won a game, again tasted defeat, "this time 'at the hands of Manaia, the scores being 20 and 15. Farndon secured a victory over (Masterton by 22 to 18, and scored their third win during the dav against Upper Plains; and Carlton and Thorndon v. Newtown were easy things for the winners, as the scores 23-13 and 30-11 show. Stratford defeated Waverley by ol to 17- Stratford went to the front after the 6th head and won comfortably Bluff Hill met their first defeat’at the hands of Kemuera, who won by 27 to 19. The scores were even on the "15th head, but a- three and a seven were gained by the beautiful ''drawing game of the Renniera load, and tho game became one-sided. Pahiatua very easily scored 33 points to tlieir opponents’ 10. Victoria v. Eltham was - the best game m the morning round. Elthum here leading bv two on the 19th head, hut with a six and one on the two remaining heads Victoria gained a victory by 26 to 21. Turangamu were off their play in the game with.yWaipawa, who won by 2/ to 12. Remuera defeated Petaue by 29 to 19 after leading throughout. Stratford heat Pihama by 23 to 14, the winners having the best of the game from the start. Turangaiiui experienced no difficulty in defeating Pahiatua by 29 to 20, after an even game till the 14th head. Victoria defeated Waipawa by 21 +,o 16. Bluff Hill were in the front all the way in their game with Eltham, and scored 23 to their opponents’ 14. Waverley defeated Pihama somewhat easily by 21 to li. Petanc and Eltham played_ a close game, the issue being in doubt to the final head, hut the strong cross wind interfered with Petaiie’s. last bowl and the game went to Eltliam iby 24 to 22. Turangaiiui scored 24 to Stratford’s 19. The game was won by the good howling of Martin, the winning skip. Bluff Hill easily defeated '\ ai : pawa by 25 to 13. Victoria defeated Pahiatua by 24 to 15. The bowling tournament was continued to-day under most favorable circumstances. In the seventh round Turangaiiui met Waipawa, being defeated bv 27 to 12. The feature of the game was the fine drawing of the Waipawa team as a whole. In the eighth round Tnrangamii had an easy win against Pahiatua, the scores being 31 to 19. All members of the team played well. J. Martin, .the skip, played a far freer game this match, and made several good firm shots a lid drives. * In tho ninth round Tu rang an u i""m acl e a fine stand against Stratford, who up to that time had been leading in tlie “A” Section. The Gisborne men all played up to their form, and had five points to the good at the end of the game. So far Turanganui has played eight games, winning four and losing four. The losses, were against Waipawa, Bluff Hill, Remuera, and Eltham. and the wins against Victoria, Pahiatua, Stratford and Petaue. The concluding games of the main tournament will be played against Pihama and Waverley. There is no prospect of Turangaiiui winning the section, as Bluff Hill has only sustained one loss and Stratford two. - They are entered for the citizens' trophies, the first game for which will he; played to-mor-row afternoon. Gisborne have lost two games- in their section. Their match against Wellington saw some big scoring, the Southern team getting 30 to their opponents’ 26.
