ATHLETICS.
DUAL CONTROL
[Press Association.]
CHRISTCHURCH,. Jan. 13
Matters in connection with the present dual control of amateur athletics in the Dominion were discussed at a meeting of the Council of the Amateur Athletic Association last night, the discussion arising out- of the suggestions forwarded" by the Auckland centre as a basis for the settlement of the seeming deadlock. The attitude of the Auckland'centre was discussed at some length, and some difference of opinion was expressed- as to whether that centre would continue its support to Christchurch after the present season, and some importance was attached to the question, as Auckland would bold the balance of power. A suggestion was made that the council should send delegates to Wellington. Otago, and Southland centres to discuss the points in dispute, with a view to arriving at a satisfactory solution of the difficulty. Very strong objection was taken to any delegation going to. Wellington. In regard to Otago, the president (Mr. W. G. Alack) undertook to enter into correspondence with the president ol that centre with the view of eliminating the charges against the Council. It was reported that a request had been received from Dr. Newman (president of the council recently formed in Wellington), asking for the funds and property of the Association, and the secretary stated that ho had declined to accede to the request. It was reported that both councils are sending notices to the clubs affiliated, requesing them to pay their subscriptions. It was resolved to offer the championship to Otago, and it was mentioned that in the event of Otago not accepting, the championship would probably be decided ill Christchurch.
