- GISBORNE CLUB

Beautiful weather and a green an excellent order favored the members of the Gisborne Bowling Club, who mustered in strong force on the club s green yesterday afternoon. Cue match game was played,. between Williams and Kyme'in the champion cup series. This was an interesting and closely contested .match, and finally resulted in favor of the former by ■three points, the scores being—Williams 16, Ivyme 13. A large number of ordinary games were played, of which the most important were the following:— Seymour, Cosscn, Pavitt, Simson (skip) 20 beat Townson, Bullock, It. G. Crawford, •Ponsford (skip) 19. Waren, Burton, Simson, Ifwerson (skip) 25 beat Carr, Ambridge, Hennessy. Quinn (skip) 17. Malcolm, Shackleford, W. It. Clarkson, Corson (skiji) 21 beat H. Miller, Wilson, Williams, R. Robertson (skip) 20, Lucas, E. Lewis, Harris, Brady (skip) 25 beat Ivyme, Ryan, F. Pettie, Craig (skip) 17, Gihnour and T. Clarkson (skip) 28 beat H. Lewis and T. Robertson 9. / T URANGANUICLUB. The fine weather yesterday afternoon enticed a "very large assemblage of bowlers at "the Turangamii Club’s grounds, all the rinks being occupied. The green played very fast, and some good ma/tdb and practice games took place. Afternoon tea was kindly provided by Mrs. R. M. Birrell, who was assisted by Mrs, Obas. Morsecaind

Miss Birred, the refreshments being much appreciated. The following are the results of the match games:HANDICAP PAIRS. (C Section.) McPherson and Ratdliffe (23) beat Creamer and Hird (13).—The former pair led throughout, being 12 to 9 on tlio 13th head, 6 to 12 on the 18th head, and winning easily by 10 bit the finish. BENNETT CUP. P. Hallatn (23) beat M. G. Nasmith (19.)—Hall am established a commagding lead, his opponent having an uphill fight throughout, and. suffering defeat by 4 points. B. Hird (10) beat J. Colley (B). This igime was decided on 15 heads, and a good contest saw Hird the victor by 2 points. At. G. Nasmith, senr. (20) beat C. J. Bennett (18). —This was a good game, the scores being 6 all 1 on the 6th head, 12 fill on the 13th head, and a good “go” to the finish saw Nasmith win by 2 points. AI. A. Neill" (19) beat J. Colley (18). —This was (another close game, the players being 11 all on the 11th head, and 16 all on the 18th head, CpUey again made matters even on the 21st head, but in the resultant extra head /Neill got the shot and won the game. P. Hal Inn (21) beat AY. H. Douglas (9). —The difference in the scores does not indicate the iplay, but the total scores show the .small scoring, Hallam, however, holding tho advantage throughout. C. J. Bennett (20) beat J. Somervell (18). — A. splendid game ensued, the players being level on the 71 h head—B all. Somervell Hand the advantage of 1 on the 12th head, but Bonnet reversed the position on the 20th head. Bennett got the shot on the last head, and Avon by 2. THE TOURNAMENT AT NAPIER. (Press Association.) NAPIER, Jan. 14. The Northern Bowling Association’s tournament Avas continued to-dav, when the weaklier Avas beautifully fine. On the Napier green AVaipawa beat Pot-aue by 30 to 22, the winners leading all through. AYaverley A r . Turauganui av/is a run-away game, Waverley Avinning by 23 to 11. HaAvcra and Thorndon bad a good even game, the result being in doubt almost to the finish. Thorndon Avon by 19 to 17. Newtown had a rather easy victory oA-er Palmerston North, winning by 18 to 12. iSt. John’s beat Patea on the last three heads, winning the game by 27 to 21. RemueiL defeated Eltliam by 22 to 21. Hastings Avere decidedly too good for Havelock, winning by 32 to 6. Napier had an easy victory over Upper Plains, winning by 26. to 16. Stratford disposed of Victoria easily by 24 to 13. Bluff Hill had no difficulty in heating Pahiatua by 27 to 8. Piiiama bent Tnranganui bv 22 to 12. Palmerston North Avere badly beaten by HaAvera, iho final scores being 22 to 12. Petane defeated Pahiatua after a close game by 17 to 14. The game betAveen Thorndon and St. John’s resulted in favor of the former by 25 to IS. Phtea defeated Havelock by 18 to 16, after an excitingly dose game. Waipawa beat Bcmuera by 24 to 22. The scores were Renmcra 22, AVaipawa 2U on the 20th head, but a four to AVaipawa on'the last" bead gave them tbe game. The Napier v. Carlton match furnished the 'attraction of the afternoon. On the 10th head Carlton were leading 17 to 5. Napier got 12 on the next five heads, and on the 15th the score AV.ais level at 17 all. A grand pull, up on the part of Napier. Napier then went ahead, and won by 26 to 22. The game was one of the best witnessed on the Napier green. A\ua'erley were in the lead on the 13th head in their game with AUctoria. Tho latter then got going, and Avon by 23 toH9. Upper Plains beat Newtown after ,an interesting game by 22 to 20. After a long-draAvn-out game. Bluff 'Hill! defeated Stratford by 27 to 18. Napier, Bluff Hill, and Feilding were the winners of their various,sections. Napier and Bluff Hill got their game off, unid A r ory eA r en and exciting was the play, Napier 'winning by 21 to 20. Gi'ceiuneadows and Farudon were 16 each on the 19th head, hut scoring five and three on the two remaining heads, Green meadoAAs Avon the game by 24 to 16. Kelburne had un easy victory over Grey town, winning by 30 to 12. Masterton lead .all the way in their game with Manaia, and won by 21 to 11. AVanganui soundly defeated Dannevirke by 36 to 10, the losers scoring on only seven heads. Feilding and Wellington were level on the 17th head Avith 12 cacli, hut the* four remaining heads fell to Feilding, Avho Avon by 25 to 12.Karori scored their first win by putting down the strong Gisborne team. Karori led throe' bout and gained their victory, which, was received with loud cheers, by consistent drawing. •The scores were 19 land 16. Feilding practically leading throughout, Avon from Karori by 26 to 13. Masterton defeated Gisborne easily by 33 to 14. AVanganui defeated Kelburne after a fairly even game by 21 to 16. GreenmeadoAvs led throughout from Greytown and Avon by 23 to 17. AVelluigton easily defeated Dannevirke by 31 to 15. Farudon beat Manaia by 21 to 15.
