TARANAKI TOUHNAMENT [Press Association.] NEW PL YMOUTH, J an. 14. The Taransaki Tennis Association’s tournament opened to-day in good weather. The only exciting match of the afternoon .was between Pear so (South' 'Canterbury) juid Jennings, formerly champion of Nelson. Pearse conceded 27 points. Misses PbAvdrelil and Nunn ally, and AVilding, Fisher, and Brown arrived to-night. H. A. Parker and A. J. Black; ,4’ Auckland, arc arriving by the Rarawia in the morning. Tlio weather at present is not. promising well. In the men’s champion singles, Smith beat Lints, and J. O. Nicholson beat €. H. AVoston. In the second round Smith boat Nicholson. In the ladies’ singles, Miss Cave (AVanganui) heat Miss Brewster. In tlio second round Miss L. Thomson beat- Miss .Simpson.
